First, the Inaugural Big Year Tournament will still run through October 31st. The one change is that we will not be posting the leaderboard updates after September 30th. After careful deliberation by the Board at the last meeting we thought this would keep the tournament competitive and keep everyone fishing up until the end. The winner will be announced at the NOFFC Fall Potluck Social we will hold in early November. We will double check everyone’s entries with them individually before the winner is announced, just to be sure we haven’t missed entries.
Second, we will also have a shortened tournament "The Little Year" starting November 1st, 2018 and lasting through March 31st, 2019. After discussing it we decided that there is such good fishing, especially for saltwater species like redfish, drum and sheepshead during these months, that we would keep the action going. Same rules as The Big Year, as many different species as you can catch, no size limits. We will announce the winner of this tournament at the Expo on April 6th, 2019. We will have new cards for you with different date stamps available for the participants.
Finally, with regards to the next Big Year Tournament, the tournament will begin April 1st, 2019 and last through March 31st, 2020. The Winner of the next Big Year will be announced at the 2020 Expo. We will have new cards available for members with the new date stamp.
The response to The Big Year has been excellent! The member participation has been great, and we hope it continues to grow. We hope we can keep the excitement going by adding these few changes. The race for first place is still very close, with a number of fishers being within striking distance of the leader. Keep the entries coming! We still have about 13 weeks of great fishing action left in the tournament, and we hope you make the most of it!
